1. A position player or pitcher can be replaced in a playoff series if the injury forces the player to miss a 7-game series.
EXCEPTION: If a club loses all of its catchers.
2. An injured player can be replaced only on a travel day or after a game that is rained out.
EXCEPTION: If a player is injured in G3, a replacement can be called in to play G5.
3. Only a position player or a pitcher can replace a position player or pitcher, respectively.
4. An injured player who is replaced is ineligible to return for all subsequent rounds.
Commentary: It wasn’t until the 2007 CBA that a MLB club could replace an injured player during a series. That meant for 104 years, MLB teams played short during the postseason.
